ARoS
ARoS is a contraction of the Latin word for art ‘ars’ and the ancient Nordic word for Aarhus ‘aros’. With its 10 storeys and area of 20,700 m2, it is one of the largest art museums in Northern Europe and has more visitors than any other museum in Scandinavia.
It houses one of the oldest art collections in Denmark, with more than 8000 pieces dating from 1770 onwards. At the same time, the museum exhibits several contemporary pieces and changes these regularly.
The building is interesting in its own right. With its big size, its hovering stairs, and OlafurEliasson’s Panoramic Rainbow, it lures the audience in. For people who want to simultaneously experience art and a 360 degree panoramic view of Aarhus, Elisasson’s roof installation really is a must see! The building has two entrances that lead to the museum’s fourth level, called the Museum Street. This part of the museum is open to everyone and does not require an entrance fee and gives a great impression of the grand building.
